Judicial Activism
"All political power is inherent in the people, and governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed, and are established to protect and maintain individual rights." - Arizona Constitution, Article II, Section 2
"We the People of the State of Arizona, grateful to Almighty God for our liberties, do ordain this Constitution." - Preamble to the Arizona Constitution
We the People of Arizona having been endowed by Almighty God with certain unalienable rights and inherent powers, have delegated certain limited powers enumerated in a document called the Arizona Constitution to governments within the State we call Arizona. We have instituted State government as well as local governments. We retain the rights to all political powers, but have delegated certain ones to various branches of the various governments we have instituted through constitutional processes so we can go about the main purposes of our lives as we see fit, with grateful hearts to Almighty God for the liberties He has bestowed upon us in allowing us to institute a republican form of government and be a people free from the tyranny of other forms of government.
As it is the duty of We the People to maintain the integrity of the various branches of government, we are the ultimate check on government. We are the ones ultimately responsible for government getting out of control. It is obvious that we have failed and that government is bloated both with wasteful money that rightfully belongs to us and with unconstitutional powers that are used against us.
In order to put government back within the confines of the limits our forefathers established, we must take back control of all branches of government through activism and oversight. We must hold government servants responsible to their duties and oaths or affirmations.
Step One: Awareness
One of the ways we take back control of the judicial branch of government is to assert our power as Jurors. Many of you have at some point been summoned to jury duty. Most people have never had a real lesson on the responsibilities of jurors. (Last time I served on a jury, the commissioners played movies for the jury pool while they awaited their case assignment! Furthermore, it was a movie that included the filthiest of profanity! I actually complained to a commissioner and told him I came to do my civic duty, not get my ears and head filled with profanity. They changed the movie!)
