Strange Isn’t It?
by Pastor Coleman
God is long-suffering and patient, but He also, for our benefit, tells us what will happen when He’s had enough of our rebellion and neglect.
"Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded; But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof: I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh; When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you." Proverbs 1:24-27.
Strange isn’t it? That people want to hear the truth when the doctor says he has found something wrong with their body; that they want to hear the truth when the dentist says there’s decay and rot in their mouth; yet, when the preacher says there’s something wrong with their life, people don’t want to hear it. Well, you better listen before you face the preacher’s Boss. It’ll be too late to pay attention and change then. And you won’t be able to shrug God off at the Judgment.
It’s interesting to note that those who love and do their best to follow God’s Word never mind hearing it; it’s the ones who reject or neglect God’s Word who don’t want to hear it. Why do they not want to hear it? Simple. It makes them feel guilty; and that is uncomfortable. People do not like being uncomfortable. (Sigh) If only they knew that if they heard enough of God’s Word, they would soon find in it the solution for guilt and they would never be uncomfortable like that again. Sadly, they don’t realize that failure to hear God’s Word results in failure to know God’s way of salvation.
An eternity away from God, suffering the torments of Hell is a whole lot worse than a few moments of guilt or conviction. It’s not worth it! Just like a doctor who kindly, but firmly; earnestly, yet gently, explains what’s wrong with a persons body, even so, we strive to do the same with regards to the problems of the human life and soul. At 35th Avenue Baptist Church, everything that we do is done in the spirit of Christ-like love. Come and check us out. You’ll never find better friends; and we’ll share with you the Friend “that sticketh closer than a brother”.
